C.S.O.S Gilnahirk

Today our annual radio activation on this historic site took place. Communications were difficult due to an unstable ionosphere, but nevertheless eleven stations were worked using CW mode with just 75 watts of power. Stations were worked in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic and Russia.

I received an email from a radio amateur in New Zealand who heard me. Sadly this doesn’t count as a QSO as he was using software defined radio connected to the internet to listen to me. However duty has been done to honour the history of this site. It is also good that the residents who now occupy this site are keenly aware of the site’s history and importance,
