Operation Banner
I would like to make contact with any Royal Signals or Military Intelligence personnel who served in Northern Ireland during Operation Banner.
My question relates directly to an aspect of the C.S.O. site at Gilnahirk but was not linked to the work of C.S.O.
I have attached an aerial photograph in which you may see four radio masts. A careful examination of the photograph reveals a portacabin just visible under the trees. Although this arrangement of radio masts was within a stones throw of Gilly, I was told by the C.S.O. maintenance engineer that this had nothing to do with Gilly. I also spoke to the farmer whose land the Portacabin and radio masts were located. It was something to do with the army / police but he knew nothing else.

The mystery four radio masts and a portacabin.
I have within the past week met a former member of Royal Signals who served with the intelligence section of the Ulster Defence Regiment. He told me that there were departments within departments and this site has all the signs of just such a department within signals or intelligence. Stand alone, and it is unlikely you will ever learn anything of their true purpose.
