RSS, Searching for VI's
Having been involved with a week of lectures at the Somme Heritage Museum on signals intelligence, attended by Vicky Warpole education officer at Bletchley Park, Ian Volkes of the Royal Signals Museum and John Alexander a gentleman with a strong interest in encryption machines it became clear that searching for our local Voluntary Interceptors needed a little publicity in various formats. A request for a mention of the task in hand on BBC Northern Ireland, Radio Ulster and the local press was forth coming. Next came a collection of display boards placed in public locations, shopping centers, libraries asking anyone with any information to get in touch. Finally the creation of a talk which I could take to groups, clubs and societies in the areas across the Province where I knew radio amateurs had lived prior to and after the war. It was a journey I was not expecting too much from, but to my absolute amazement and surprise, my very first talk to a Probus club produced a VI, Robert A Wright. I could not have got off to a better start as it gave me the encouragement I needed to proceed.
