About the event

LISTENING TO THE ENEMY: WAR COMES TO A CORNISH VILLAGE, WITH MICHAEL GRIFFITHS

During WW2 and on into the Cold War years, an unprepossessing building on the outskirts of St Erth housed an important MI6/Bletchley Park outstation, which listened to the German Secret Service and many major military campaigns. Mike Griffiths’ father Harry was a radio operator, based there throughout the hostilities. His ‘Code Book’, full of German and Italian radio networks, brevity codes and Double Agent call signs, encapsulates the role that the St Erth Radio Station and its sister sites played as the ears of Bletchley Park. Mike will talk about the painstaking research that resulted in his book, Listening to the Enemy, shortlisted for the Holyer An Gof Publishers’ Award 2023.
